    Alright one more :)

    Do you have Java installed?

Yes I do have Java installed - it is up to date, and the configuration settings are the same as the other win 7 PC that successfully uses this 'problem' program

    Oh just another one

    - Go the the computer where it works and copy them, paste into and overwrite the files in problematic computer.

One question you asked that I missed earlier, if the program actually opens and keeps running, then you should see it in Task Manager processes tab, possibly with the exe name.

I had the same double posting earlier, guess it is some kind of a bug. You can edit and delete the 2nd post.

I will be going to bed shortly, if I come with more ideas I will post tomorrow. Keep trying or use an online Bible! :)

    Good thinking GokAy
I have just popped into task manager, and the program IS reported in applications running - cannot however readily identify an entry in processes

What happens when you select it in Task Manager and right click->Switch or Bring to Front? Try both

    Hello again GokAy
went to task manager - right clicked - and selected bring to front - and switch - both had no effect whatsoever.

Will now try to copy the entries from the 'good' computer, and overwrite these to the 'bad' one as you suggested

Not sure if they are BAD :) It can be the registry as well or perhaps a rights issue.

After you try copy pasting, if it won't work try:
    - right click the folder for the program->Properties->Security->Edit->Add->"your username"
    - while selected in upper window click on full control below ->apply

    see if it will work

    It is now SOLVED:)
As in many cases, the answer was so simple it was unbelieveable.
1 - I clicked on the desktop program icon
2 - I hovered the curser over the taskbar icon
3 - Doing this brought up a further small window - on which I right clicked and selected maximise.
This brought about a fully working program.
I can claim no credit for finding the answer - this came about by searching the web.

I would thank those who sought to help me on this issue - very much appreciated chaps
    Thanks again
