    Memtest 86

Memtest 86 has changed drastically since the last time I needed to use it.

I am running Win 7 32 bit and it is slower than you can believe and it is a new install with all the updates.

I wanted to run Memtest 86 to see if it was the memory causing the problem. I believe I have checked everything else.

The problem I ran into was trying to figure out which Memtest 86 to download and NOT have to burn to a DVD. I tried the latest version (I think) burned to a DVD and that did NOT work even though it was an ISO file.

I DO need some help with this thank you

Thanks a lot. I hope I got everything I need now.

BTW I did run the Memory Diagnostics Tool built into Windows 7 and it did NOT find anything.

I have one issue (maybe more) with that the tutorial. On the first Method (With a USB Memory Stick) it say to download "Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool" and it has a link to where that tool should be located.

I see six (6) options and NONE has the title "Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool".

The same issue exists if I go to method 2 (With a CD) to download " Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool.. This is the same tool as Method 1 and dang if I see it.

These are the ones I see:

Download - Pre-Compiled Bootable ISO (.gz)
Download - Pre-Compiled Bootable ISO (.zip)

Download - Pre-Compiled Bootable Binary (.gz)
Download - Pre-Compiled Bootable Binary (.zip)

Download - Auto-installer for USB Key (Win 9x/2k/xp/7) *NEW!*
Download - Pre-Compiled package for Floppy (DOS - Win)

    Which one do I use???

Method 1: With a USB Memory Stick

    1. Download the latest version of the "Auto-installer for USB Key (Win 9x/2k/xp/7)" from this link: Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

    2. Plug in an empty USB key drive. Size is no concern, as the actual files take up 180 KB of space.

    3. Go into the .zip folder you downloaded, and double-click on the .exe file inside.

    4. Follow the setup utility. To reduce the risk of problems, it is advised to format the drive.

The above would be the link with *New* on the end of it.

    Method 2: With a CD

    1. Download the latest version of the "Precompiled Boot ISO (.zip) from this link: Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

You want the "Precompiled Boot ISO (.zip)".

    2. Open the .zip file you downloaded, and then drag the .ISO file inside onto the Desktop.

    3. Right-click on the ISO, and select Open with>Windows Disc Image Burner.
This one would be the ISO zip.
