reason for instigating this post - I get this message on screen

I check the plugins on Google, sure enough, A A F is vulnerable and needs updating, I procede. First i untick "McAfee security plan" -- initialise, save file, Flash Player installer saved - message, "Installation will begin shortly" - 5 minutes later no action - ???

    There are two programmes - A F P 18 Active X
    A F P 19 NPAPI

Probably not. Youtube is now HTML5 but there are some sites out there that still use it. You could always try disabling the browser add-in and see what happens.

    Hi:

If you're going to keep it, it's very important to keep it updated for all relevant browsers (such as Firefox and IE), and to obtain it ONLY from the official Adobe download site (never from 3rd-party sites).
There are separate installers for ActiveX browsers (IE) and Plug-In (aka NPAPI) browsers, such as Firefox.

From your post, you already know to opt-out of the bundled freebies.
You can also get the installers from a different site at Adobe, where the installers come without bundled junk: https://www.adobe.com/products/flash...ribution3.html

In Firefox, you can configure settings to keep it disabled by default, and then enable it on a per-site basis as needed.

This recent thread has more information (and discussion):
What is the latest news regarding Adobe Flash?

    Cheers,

    Hi,
    Depends on what you do,
Some if not all online games require it as far as I know

You show you use Firefox and ie8 which ie8 is out of date so much you'd be better off not using it at all.
