    Program/ Application installation question

When logged in to a domain-based workstation under an admin account, if you install a program will this install under all the user accounts? If I recall correctly, I had an application that was installed on one user in the past, but not the others.

Also, what is the best way to install an application for one specific user and not the others?

Whenever installing an application/ program in the past, I always logged on to an admin account and subsequently installed the application. I am just curious if there are other options and if so, how to do it.

Installing a program, by definition, means making it available to all user accounts under that computer, by putting it in the common system location (program files). It's precisely the writing to that system-wide location what requires administrator access for installers.

"Installing" a program for only one account is what the so-called "portables" do. By putting the program and all its dependencies into one folder within the user profile, just the owner of that profile has access (and admins, of course). Few installers can do that, but the common way of doing so is simply downloading the .zip distribution of the software and extracting to your profile. Since it's entirely under your account, that doesn't requires administrator access.
