Restore it and don't do anything immediately. Someone else with more experience than I may be able to direct you further. After restoration of that folder, do you still have no yellow exclamation points in Device Manager?

Well... disabling it at start up improves loading, but disabling it entirely is not a good move.

Personally I always create a manual restore point before trying out a new app/driver. It can save a lot of headaches and frustration

System restore doesn't affect your performance. It's not running all the time. It's scheduled to create a system restore point once a day or whatever you want to set it at.
