    Could I install node.js next to wamp server with no side effects?

    Yes, they're totally unrelated and can easily coexist (why would they not?)
    Just make sure each program listens on a different port.

    regarding port, I think after installation of Node.js, the software offers me an interface to set the port for it, yes?

    No, there is no configuration at all. It just depends on which program you make it run and on what port it listens (if it actually listens on anything).
