    updating nero8 ver 8.2 to 8.3

our nero 8 cd is version 8.2 which installs ok on w7. now to get it working we need to update to ver 8.3.

the only option i can find to update is within nero 8 itself under check for updates which worked ok in vista.

but in w7 it downloads the update [no option to save] then the screen says it needs to uninstall the current version and will need to restart. but after nero reboots into windows no trace of nero other than the registry the update just does not kick in.

    any idea's anyone please.

    Download the latest 8.x version:

    Nero - Nero 8 - Update

(Hint: you don't need to supply a real email address.)

    Save your installation key.

    Uninstall Nero.

Install using the above. (It isn't strictly an updater.)

    Enter your key again.

I've used Nero 8.1.13.0 successfully under Win7 Home Premium X64. I just use Nero Burning Rom itself; I don't know whether any of the other applications are compatible.

I suggest removing Nero altogether, and re-installing it. In the worst case, you may have to download the cleanup tool to remove all significant remnants of Nero from your system.

I have had trouble in the past with updating it. I haven't seen 8.3.14.0, but if it's like the 8.3.13.0 "update", it'll install as a stand-alone.

    Hi there
unless you NEED the bloatware that Nero now has become I'd suggest you go back to version 7 -- works fine on W7 and X-64 as well.

The Mega codecs plugin pack works so you've got no trouble burning audio CD's from FLAC files etc etc.

For just "normal" burning software there's lots of better (and FREE) alternatives -- and don't forget once you've created an ISO windows 7 itself can burn directly.

    cheers

I still like Nero. It's not all that bloated if you only install the burning application. Of course, it makes little sense to pay a lot of money just for Nero Burning Rom.

Does the burning utility built-in to Win7 include a burn verification feature? (That's not a rhetorical question.)

I have the same version of Nero 8 installed on my laptop and main PC. Works fine on my main pc, but not on my laptop. Might be the drivers for the laptop dvd/cd drive?
