Go to Program Files (x86) Itunes-right click on the itunes, and send to Desktop (create shortcut), use that as the shorcut. You should be able to change the properties (icon) from that one.
I can, but then you're forgetting the original problem from the first post.

I need to change the icon of the pinned iTunes programs which is running in the taskbar.

If you pin that new one to the taskbar, then open itunes, and it opens with a new icon that it's focused on, you should be able to right click that one itunes icon it's focused on, right click where it says itunes-go to properties, then change the icon.

Then unpin the older one, and pin the running one to the taskbar. may take a reboot for the icon to change.

A reboot fixed it. Good call.

I've reinstalled Windows 7, albeit with a different build, though that shouldn't matter.

I can't seem to get this to work again.

    Hi Paul,

You have to open up itunes so both icons are showing, then right click on the new one, the one that's focused on itunes, and click Pin this to taskbar. Then right click on the old one, and unpin it from the taskbar. It should fix it.
THANK YOU!!! This was annoying... another example of Apple just marching to their own tune... They don't play nice with others... LOL.

Hey Airbot, i seem to be having this problem, but your fixes arent helping for me for some odd reason.

I go to programfiles>itunes>itunes.exe, copy that file to the desktop.
Change the icon to the new icon that i want to use (grey).
I then pin that shortcut to the taskbar.
When I click on the shortcut, it opens up a new itunes taskbar icon (the gross blue one).
It now minimizes to the blue one.
I right click (on the blue one) and choose "unpin this from taskbar", and it is now unpinned - but still sits there.
If i close the program, the shortcut brings me back to opening another taskbar app.

I thought i followed your instructions, but maybe not.

Get rid of all the pinned itunes icons on the taskbar and reboot and try again.

If you use the icon from program files-itunes.exe, and make a shortcut of that. Before changing it to another icon and pinning it after, pin it to the taskbar first before you change it. Then click on it to open itunes. If it opens a new icon on the taskbar, right click on that new one and pin it. Then right click on the old one and unpin it. Then make sure when you click on the new one you just pinned, that it opens itunes and doesn't open a new icon. If it does, try the steps again.

So then right click on that new pinned one on the taskbar that just opens itunes by itself, and right click on where it says itunes in that little popup window, and then Properties-Shortcut tab-Change icon. Point to your new icon you want for it from there/apply/ok. Probably will have to reboot.

    thanks for the reply airbot.

So Im not having a problem slimming it down to only one in the taskbar. ive gotten pretty fluent at the whole pinning/unpinning fiasco with two icons.

I did what you said, rebooted twice actually, and there still just this ugly blue icon in the taskbar. When i right click it now, and go to properties, you can see the grey icon that ive applied, but its just not showing up that way on the taskbar. even after a reboot.
all my other icons changed perfectly fine, and all minimize to this, but i dont know why itunes just wont change the damned icon. if you test it for yourself - and tell me if it works for you.

MAYBE its the icon im trying to use? it is a .ico though, so i dont forsee any issues.
I dont wanna have to use rocketdock or anything like that, but this one blue icon is stressing the hell out of my OCD

I've had that same kind of issue before, it might just be the specific icon. Thinking the way I finally got around it was to unpin the itunes icon/s, clear the icon cache, try it again and reboot a couple times, or change the location of where the customized icon is. Or a different icon.

Alright, I cleared the icon cache and rebooted.

I went through all the steps again, and im still stuck with this blue icon. Also tried all the steps again with a different icon - still nothing.

Ive heard this happens with itunes and safari. Something must be overriding my changes.

Looks like im stuck with this gross icon indefinitely
    thanks for the help though!
