Open PDF directly from FTP in Windows Explorer

    Hi there.
In our company a user with a Win8 OS can open PDF files directly from a folder on a FTP server while a user with Win7 OS can not. The Win7 computer tries to open them always in Internet Explorer no matter what I do.

I had to install Webdrive, to fix this problem. But, this software is a demo with 20 days trial period.

The Win8 computer is manually installed from scratch while the Win7 is deployed using SCCM with a custom image. The GPO is the same for both of them as far as I know.

My questions is: Does Win7 has difficulties with opening PDF files directly from FTP server or is Win8 built a bit different on that area? Anyone knows this?

    Grateful for any help.

Have you tried right clicking on the PDF file and selecting "Open with..." and setting the default program to open the file with as a PDF reader, (or Acrobat, whatever)? If it's defaulting to Internet Explorer, it may just be the file association that is wrong.

    Hi.
File association is correct in Windows 7.
Can not right click and open with from the FTP view.
It works on Windows 8 computers.
Can it be a GPO what has been set?
