KERNELBASE.DLL Crashes Applications Running Through Steam

    Hello everyone.

So after doing a clean reinstall (supposedly), where I once was able to play games through Steam no problem, I'm now met with a strange error that wasn't there before.

While playing DEPTH, for example, the game will show DEPTH's logo but will then crash and notify that it has done so. Upon reviewing the details of the AppCrash, it says that "KERNELBASE.DLL" is to blame.

Does anyone know what this is all about? Is my Kernel screwed up? My PC is a preconfigured Alienware X51 and due to ongoing BSODs, I decided to reinstall the OS. Ever since, I can't seem to get any of my games to run. Is it possible I'm missing an important component? I'm not sure what to try as I never had to deal with this before.

I assume that you have applied all of the Windows updates required. Have you also loaded and installed all of the Alienware device drivers?

    Thank you for replying.

As I wanted to make a clean reinstall and eliminate most of the pre-installed software, I have installed a handful of device drivers. Do you know of any specific drivers I should install? I have them on my Resource disc. Should I also update any of them or will the ones from the Resource disc be enough for now?

Also, I do have some updates that came up a few days ago. I'll try those first.

@Mellon Head, thanks again for the help.

I solved the problem. Turns out it was the updates AND some of the files from the DEPTH application were invalid. "Verifying Integrity of Local Game Cache" fixed the problem and I was able to get to the Main Screen of DEPTH.
