Pinnacle Studio 12 stalls during install, no error given

I've been running this program for years on this computer. But I had a mainboard crash and had to upgrade. So, just like it says, I can get the program installing all the way through. Progress goes all the way to the end and then starts over and stalls. It says that it's still running, no errors post, and I can't determine where it hangs. If I try to cancel out of it and start over, it gives a dialog box saying that there is another application installing. The only way to get out of this, is to reboot the computer. Upon reboot and trying to reinstall again, it informs me that the install was suspended and I can't get it to start again. It doens't appear in the software and programs list. The application icon that was on the desktop is gone after reboot, and the only way to get it to reset is by running the Pinnacle DVC100 driver installer. This sees the suspension and gives you the option to cancel it. That's only way I can start over.

I've tried using admin privileges; I've tried admin plus using compatibility mode for Vista. I even got desperate and tried safe mode. All of which yielded the same result. Never any errors, and I've even let the installer sit there overnight, with no sign of progress.

After running the installer and it sitting there, it gives random peaks of CPU working at 100% for a while, then switches cores.

I don't know anyway else to monitor where it's at in the install process to see what is hanging. I know this is an old program, but I'm trying to save it because it's still the easiest way to capture VHS footage into digital format.

Try compatibility mode for Windows XP and follow the instructions here:

Unfortunately, it did the exact same thing. I'm thinking I might try running a VM and see what happens with the install. It's like it gets all the way through and the very last thing just stops. For a brief second a command window pops up and then closes down and disappears before it resets the progress bar and then just sits there.

I tried another install today when I realized that Windows was recognizing my second onboard GPU(the server extension) as an actual monitor and was trying to extend the desktop to it. So, I disabled that and made sure I set it to show desktop only on the correct monitor. The install still ended up the same.

    Any other thoughts?

It sounds like it isn't compatible with 7. I suggest that you try their forum and see if there is a work around.

Is this an upgrade version of Studio 12? If it is, it is looking for a previous installed version of Studio before it will successfully install.
