New instructions for safely installing ImgBurn?
Hi Folks,
Continuing to set up my new computer, on my old Vista one there were times I needed ImgBurn and so wanted to install it on the Win 7 one. Since my last visit to the ImgBurn download site, the site has become even harder to decipher (what do these links download anyway?) and I read on Wikipedia that the author has changed the product infestation. I read an old post about how to avoid installing opencandy, but that was an old post and I wondered if anyone can help me do a safe download of a new copy. Or, do you recommend something else. There are several interesting options out there, including Burn Aware and DVD Styler, but if you recommend one of these I'd like to know it's instalation "gotchas" too. Thank you! |

I installed ImgBurn without malware by doing this :
(NOTE:tried this and it works Anyway, I would recommend using the NSIS silent installation method if you don't like OpenCandy. (OpenCandy is malware) Open a command prompt with administrator privileges, browse to the directory with the ImgBurn installer and run this ![]() SetupImgBurn_2.5.8.0.exe /S /D=C:\Program Files\ImgBurn |

I tried newest (with the junk) imgburn on a new installation. Couldnt see any improvement over '2.5.1.0', (<- I think the last version w/o the trash), now, I use just 2.5.1.0 every time, no worries about installing trash, , , , and, it works just fine.

If I remember correctly IMGburn comes bundled with extras (OpenCandy)
You can download an installer from https://ninite.com/ that will install IMGburn cleanly. Or you can download the installer from the IMGburn website and use this: Looking for freeware to burn bin/cue other than imgburn Just download the batch file or copy the lines from within the code box shown in the above link into notepad and save it with the .bat extension. When you want to launch an OpenCandy bundled installer just run the batch file and drag 'n' drop the installer executable onto the window that opens. |

More info:
I downloaded the installer directly from the ImgBurn website and ran it sandboxed. It still gets detections on VirusTotal. It seems that it's no longer bundled with OpenCandy but instead is bundled with "Advanced PC Care" but you can opt out during install. I'd still suggest downloading the installer from https://ninite.com/ Scroll down the page and tick ImgBurm then download. |

Thanks to all, and especially to Callendar. I had even read the setup post about using Ninite. I investigated it then, but, at that time I planned to install some of my utilities on the D:\ drive and I dropped Ninite from consideration. Of course my D:\ drive plan was not a good one, but by the time I figured that out I had forgotten that Ninite would also give a clean install.
I just used the Ninite page to select and install several items because it was the easiest and least prone to error of the several solutions that readers offered. It worked just fine. Solved! |

I download from this website.
The Official ImgBurn Website I did use this for many years, and this is the correct download site. When i start using it, it confirm as it is the original, since i use it before. Any other site will give you additional things, unknown to you but. |

Weird... It's the same exact website I've dowloaded the latest version (2.5.8) and no malware packed on it... not even PC care or wahever is called...
Probably just avoid sites like softpedia and the likes since I've heard they modify installers to bundle malware? Checked the hashes and they match. No sign of OpenCandy or any nasties but it does offer to install additional software "Advanced PC Care" Check IMGBurn forum here to see what they've done in the past. https://cse.google.com/cse?cx=partne...led&gsc.page=1 RE: Softpedia. I've downloaded lots of stuff from them. You often get the choice of download links including downloading directly from the manufacturers. They don't modify installers to bundle malware. Some other well known download sites do though. Ad supported applications are flagged up but it's up to the user to read details. Licensing - Ad-supported - what it means. At least they flag it up. Wow... I was lucky then... this version I have has nothing bundled on it.. NOTHING! I recall I downloaded this version somewhere 2015 and this year... And yes, it is 2.5.8...
I know it's probably forbidden in forum rules, but I can share this setup if you want, guys... I didn't do anything to it, it is just probably a lucky no crapware budled version of ImgBurn... |
