Any program for freshly installed Windows 7 that updates HW drivers?

Hello, sorry if this was posted already!

Is there any program that automatically looks for and updates for example your hard drive drivers, mouse drivers, chipset drivers etc to the latest version?

I know for sure that Windows Update doesn't do this, and manually checking through device manager always states that windows has the latest drivers available....from 2005.

Yes, they exist, and they're a disaster waiting to happen!

There is no reliable way for a program to determine what driver you have (given any arbitrary driver) and then go and find updates for that. Windows Update does this, and is one known cause of problems, because it loves to install outdated and incompatible drivers. There is no reason to think that any other program will be better at this, generally speaking.

Besides, device drivers are normally one of the weakest points in any Windows system, and the prime cause of BSODs. Once you have a stable setup, updating them without any reason to do so if just risky, I would wait until you notice a problem or a vulnerability has been discovered, or the new version offers significant improvements.

The correct way of getting the right drivers for your hardware is to use the vendor website, find the exact hardware model and exact OS version, and get the driver directly from him. Be sure to backup the installer for future use, just in case.

That said, if you really want to shot yourself in the foot, Google for "driver manager" software or similar searches.

If their was such a program that worked we would all be using it.

As far as I know their is no such program that really works.
I have tested a couple of program through the years and it was nothing but a head ache and lots of time spent cleaning up the mess.

I get my drivers from the Vendor and only when I have a need to.
Updating drivers when their is no need to can also cause problems.
Just because a driver is new doesn't necessarily mean your system needs it or your system will work properly with the new driver.
