    Anybody out there use the Alpha-Ray software audio synthesizer?

    As the title says, I'm using this little gem for some audio recording. It's a great little freeware program and it looks like this (in case someone recognizes it and can't remember the name):

    Anybody out there use the Alpha-Ray software audio synthesizer?-alpha-ray.jpg

    So, my point is that my copy has recently stopped working since I loaded some unknown software - I can't remember what the specific program was as I loaded several audio recording programs that day. I get no sound out of the program anymore, and when I try to use the menus or quit, I get a window that pops up saying that "SAVIHost - Standalone VSTI Host has stopped responding." I have to option to close the program or wait for it to respond. I waited five hours the other day.

    I obviously have a driver problem, but I'm not sure where to look. I've tried downloading a new copy of the software and reinstalling (as Administrator), but no go. I have the SysInternals Suite of programs, but I'm not sure if I can use it to look at loaded drivers. I've uninstalled most of the audio programs that I loaded (except for two - Fender FUSE, and Ableton Live 9. Both are required for what I'm doing).

    Anybody have an idea how to look for a driver conflict like this? I'm lost on this one.

    TIA

    I can't help you with that program. I use Sonar

    But, when you reinstalled the program, did you first uninstall the existing version, RESTART the PC, and then install? If not give that a try. Many times if you just install over top of an existing program or do not restart the PC after uninstalling the same problem can be there.

    Ah, good point. No I didn't. I'll try that and post back.

    Thanks.

    Well, I tried uninstalling and resinstalling, with a reboot in between. Sadly, no joy. Still the same behavior as before. I know for a fact that this software synth works with Ableton. It's advertised that it will. I guess I'll have to keep looking for the driver that is borking the whole thing.

    I still can't get it to work for some reason, but I'm going to mark this thread as solved.

    I found some great VST synthesizer plug-ins (and they're free ones, too!) that work inside Ableton Live, so in that sense, my problem is solved. I'd still like to get Alpha-Ray working because it's a nice little synth, but I guess there must be some kind of conflict that I can't resolve.

    Any clues here (if you are using it as standalone)

    FAQ

    Please install our Instruments on WIN 7 and run it as Administrator !
    Select : right mouse click, execute as ADMIN. Than the Installation works correctly.
    Then execute your VST Hostprogram one time after the installation as ADMIN.
    So it requires a separate program in order to work. If you are using this:

    SAVIHost

    Maybe you could check instructions:

    savihost.exe has to be copied or renamed to the name of the PlugIn's DLL. If, for example, the PlugIn is called blabla.dll, host.exe has to be renamed to blabla.exe
    * Note: SAVIHost is intended to be and stay a small executable, so it doesn't include the MSVC / MFC runtime library. The x86 version is still built with VC6, for the simple reason that msvcrt.dll / mfc42.dll are guaranteed to be on every version of Windows since Win98SE, and it doesn't need any more sophisticated features.

    Check that those other audio programs you installed did not modify msvcrt.dll / mfc42.dll

    The x64 version, however, is built with Visual Studio 2008 SP1, and thus requires msvcr90.dll and mfc90.dll to run. I'm not sure whether the 64-bit versions of Vista/7 contain these from the start; if not, please download and install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64).
    If you are using 64bit version uninstall then reinstall Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 then SP1 Redistributable Package (x64) - you need a reboot after the uninstall.

    VC++ 2008 64bit: Access Denied

    VC++ 2008 64bit SP1: Access Denied (service pack)

    NOTE: I don't use the software so the above is just a guess.

    Callender, you're brilliant.

    I downloaded a new version of SAVIHost and it works! The one that comes with the program must be incompatible with something in my system suddenly. I don't really care as it works just fine now

    Thanks a lot! :)
