You are a genius Callender , thank you. Win7Fix.reg has corrected the problem just fine. I hope you didn't have to dream up all that code, working with bits is a royal pain. I am guessing that there were some errors in the registry keys for windows explorer.
Thank you again.

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 7601 Multiprocessor Free Service Pack 1

I can't take credit for it. Some research suggested it might fix things. I read that use of registry cleaners in auto clean mode can cause the problem. I don't know if you used a registry cleaner or maybe uninstalled some software where the uninstaller was faulty but if using registry cleaners it's always best to backup first then manually select items for removal.

Glad it's fixed. :)

Thank you Callender, you are a genius. The merged keys worked perfectly. I hope you didn't have to write those, working with bits is a royal pain. I am guessing is was a matter of tweeking the behaviour of windows explorer.
Thanks again.

How can I know what file associations bogus or no longer needed?
Does malware/viruses take advantage of file associations to do their dirty work? I have a utility that can delete unwanted associations, but what about those entries that are unknown, can't be identified, or suspicious? Is there any list like on your helpful default file association page that can...

Hi folks, first post here because I did a search for answer, but to no avail. Somehow or another when I setup WMP I wanted iTunes and quicktime to handle certain filetypes, and WMP to handle "windows only" file types, Not to mention Pro Tools to handle midi etc. Anyway, I can't seem to change...
