How to add/enable a program to start at Windows Logon

    Good afternoon everyone,

I'm having a problem with remembering how to add/enable a program that will start at Windows Logon. I don't seem to be having much luck with various searches. Perhaps I'm not using the right search terms/parameters.

Could someone kindly enlighten me as to how to do this, or provide a link to a source that explains how to accomplish this (in simple terms this aged, non-techie person [me]can understand)?

Thank you for your time and any help!

    Hi,

All or most will have settings in the program to start or not with windows.

    Hi TZ,

One program is the Pangolin Screen Brightness. Another is the GWX Control Panel (from Ultimate Outsider) - which helps keep MS from installing Win 10.

Thanks for getting back with me!

    Hi,
You could first see if they are listed using start button and type in the search box
    msconfig
Then the enter key and startup section and see if they exist and are checked.
If so then review each of the programs setting gwx I know has the option to start or not with windows
The other I have no idea but it should have basic settings so just take a look see :)

RE: GWX - the setting to start with windows is "Click To Enable Monitor Mode" in the GUI.

However I'd say that it's not needed unless MS is going to start giving us Windows 10 for free again.

    RE: PangoBright.

I just downloaded it and it's a standalone executable. You just need to create a shortcut here:

    C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

Replace Username with your account name in the path shown above.

The only problem is that you'll need to create an elevated shortcut if you want to avoid a UAC prompt when the program tries to launch on startup.

If you want an elevated shortcut let us know but it's not straightforward.

If the program doesn't have an auto start option, see METHOD TWO in this tutorial:

    Hi again,

My thanks to TZ, Callender, and DavidE for your respective replies
    to my inquiry! :)

Given what Callender said about the GWX Control Panel......I'll not bother doing anything with that program. I'm still in the process of reviewing what each of you has contributed...so it will be a while before I can complete everything.

Thanks again to each of you for all your help!
