Hi RoWin7,

Just to clarify i stated the system is REPORTING not showing as non-genuine
NOT that it is, NOR do i believe it is.
Its in an inconsistant state, and should not have been passed to you as such.

The product key in use on your computer is of the
OEM FACTORY built type, and its tied to the original motherboard ONLY.

I don't have a CD anyway. The puter was built by a member of my computer club and I won it in the Feb monthly raffle. I'm planning to ask him for a disc.
The statement above would require the club to purchase either a System Builder, Retail or VLK licences.
(VLK licences are used on ALL Windows versions)
However in this case i believe it was just serviced, and the above comment is irrelevant here.

An OEM_SLP machine never needs to be connected to the internet at all, unless validation is required by MS for the installation of certain updates/add-ons (Security updates are always validation-free (1)) .
The Key's self-activation is automatic, and entirely within the computer itself.
The problem arises if there is anything which disturbs one of the three legs of the process.
The SLIC table can be affected by a BIOS update(2)
The Certificates can be corrupted or removed
The Key can be corrupted in the registry, or manually changed.

(1)
Suspect these are the ONLY updates you are getting
(2)
This i believe is why your getting the error
The Bios date and version on your comp are not tying up
BIOS><Manufacturer>AMI</Manufacturer><Version>7.16</Version><SMBIOSVersion major="2" minor="6"/><Date>20111005000000.000000+000,
see screenshot,
and as i said in my original post i think it was caused by the use of a generic ISO, and as your expiriencing permissions and scripting errors its possibly corrupt.

KB971033 can in some cases correct this error, as it updates certain files.
Its part of the Activation process
Please run it there is a critical error showing in the MG report.

Is it illegal??,
NOT if you follow the EULA terms
basically boils down to key type
OEM computer, change the Motherboard NEW licence required
System builder tied to computer can be moved to another comp, but a very grey area.
Retail\VLK\MAK can be installed and moved, on and off to any computer.

ReArm
The command prompt
slmgr - rearm extends the activation period, 3 or 5 are the standard, re-arms last 30 days.
yours is 4 so somebody has run the above command once allready, or effected changes on the licencing scheme.
when it reaches 0 and validation fails for any reason the OS will show as non-genuine

32/64 bit.
Licence keys are valid for either.

Next time you talk/email to your fellow members just refer them to this thread.

Thanks, guys.

Torchwood-- I misinterpreted because I don't understand most of what you said. We seem to fit into KMS Client and Volume MAK. And the license on the case is indeed different from the OS. I'll be going to a meeting tomorrow night.

I already have KB 971033, and I'm missing only 2 more recent updates.

Should I download that BIOS update?

Hi RoWin7.

Please run KB971033 again, as i said its an updater for WAT,

The product key currently in use is the Hewlett Packard Factory default key
And is the same one used for Every computer made and shipped by them with W7 Ultimate installed
The other key is your Back-up and is unique (DO NOT POST IT)

Its Allways a good idea to update, BIOS or otherwise, so go ahead.
(please advise the "builder" at your club to check these before passing them on.)

Now as for your club, and whether or not they need to purchase a Licence
(you are correct it would be VLK)
IN REALITY - A new key is ONLY required when

A new motherboard is installed on a OEM computer, the Back-up key will also fail to activate it correctly.
(the licence type/manufacturer/shipped version are on the COA where you found your back-up key)
A different version of the OS is installed, ie Home to Pro etc.

There are more scenario's but these are the major caviates.

Good news time,
-- YOU

Here is a link for a W7 Ultimate SP1 64bit Eng version, burn it to a cd.
https://software-download.microsoft....5780543fa07374

ITS ONLY VALID for 24 hrs

(run a System Repair with it, should clear the permissions/scripting errors -- NO LOSS of your data)

-- CLUB
MS offers free OS keys for certain Charitable Organisations

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/phila...ns/eligibility

Further, the major OEM's Dell/Acer/Asus etc, may also provide you with free RE-Installations discs.

Finally,
These forums are for everyone, clubs included
AND there is a vast list of Tutorials, same for our W8 and W10 sister sites.

Just 2 small Q's.

You said:

"The product key currently in use is the Hewlett Packard Factory default key

The other key is your Back-up and is unique (DO NOT POST IT)"

The first one refers to the one on the Properties page I posted? And the backup one is the label on the case? What do you mean by "backup?" I can use only one product key.

Neither of them matches the product key in the registry, which start with 5 letters.

I'm very grateful to you for the CD :-D

Hi RoWin7,

Your full code

MHFPT-8C8M2-V9488-FGM44-2C9T3,
The report only shows the last 3 blocks BY DESIGN
(if you had a paid for key would you want it posted?, same for the default key its unique)

There all out in the wild on the web, so dont worry about it.
I actually have my backup key in use-
In my early days full of curiosity, lack of knowledge totally managed to kill my lappy, had to use it to activate, (long story short)

I've got a list of all factory installed keys

Yes, for 7 Home Premium, but mine is 7 Ultimate. Duh. Now I understand. Builder told me they use the same key on all the builds, otherwise they would have to buy hundreds of licenses. Well, as long as I know which one to use if I have to reinstall or repair install.

If you have a Windows 7 Home Premium sticker with the COA key then you will have to do a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium and use the key on the Microsoft sticker.

Hi RoWin7,
Based on your comment above

TOTALLY ILLEGAL,
every comp your group has supplied is non-genuine/counterfiet.
unless the COA sticker stated Ultimate
I said in an earlier post
OR changing the OS from Home >> Pro etc.

Why did i not identify yours your asking?

HP media was used
Your comp was not a standard Off-the-shelf model, it was only sold as USER configurable, Ultimate option included.
Only by seeing your COA sticker could I have spotted its non-genune
