How can I get Flash Player to function other than in a browser?

I have a screensaver made from an swf file. It works on Windows 10 and did so on 8.1 too. I could click on a shortcut to it or on the scr file in system32 and it would work. And it worked, of course, in the normal way after a set delay.

I have the scr file on this Windows 7 desktop, but it doesn't work. When clicking on it a window opens saying that Flash Player is needed to execute the screensaver properly. It's installed by default in Chrome, and it's enabled, but that's got nothing to do with running screensavers.

I can't see anything on Adobe's site which helps, an I don't want to reveal my private details to yet another company in order to use their forum.
Does anyone know why the scr file won't work?

I received email dated 31 May at 11:07 PM saying that a reply had been made to my question from a user named AddRAM. The reply seems to have been deleted.

The message was "Did you install Flash Player ?"

    Yes, of course I did.

    which did u install?

" It's installed by default in Chrome, and it's enabled, but that's got nothing to do with running screensavers."
ahhh you need to install the standalone FlashPlayer that would possible work... other wise there are three ones you can install from the FlashPlayer dev/beta site

    Flash Player 26 Beta Installers

    Universal 32-bit and 64-bit installers
    Windows
    - Download Flash Player for Internet Explorer - ActiveX
    - Download Flash Player for Firefox and Netscape Plug-In compatible applications – NPAPI
    - Download Flash Player for Opera and Chromium based applications – PPAPI <-- this one you wouldn't need because Google Chrome already comes with it afaik

    Flash Player 26 Beta Standalone

32-bit standalone builds for Mac and Windows
    - Download standalone for Windows 32-bit
I rename the file standalone file as "FlashPlayer.exe"
and move it to a new folder called "AdobeFlashPlayer"

    C:\Program Files\AdobeFlashPlayer\FlashPlayer.exe
just by running it it will automatically file type associate the .swf files..
and it "MIGHT" get your screen savor to work... not sure....

then again.. it could be since its Windows complaining it MIGHT be the ActiveX version of the FlashPlayer plugin you need to install it might be that which it is looking for
