Hello Jeannie mate for example I find when I change docs I always get a message to say what format and it suggests Word 2003 I have no problem with this as the docs save ok and I am just wondering if you have any old Word stuff on the machine??

Edit: I meant to mention what David suggested works for me I can resize carry the text on down the side of the inserted or even take up the text after the pic. - I use a pic

Have you thought of reinstalling Libre??

Thanks but I've already tried reinstalling LibreOffice. No dice.

LibreOffice recommends saving documents as .odt files. I've found that files saved as .doc or .docx occasionally get corrupted formatting so I'm saving files I make as .odt since I'm going to be the only one using them (I'm avoiding the use of MS Office to force me to learn how to use LibreOffice). If I ever need to share a file with someone, I can easily convert it to a PDF file using LibreOffice, PDF Studio 12, or PDF Creator (a virtual printer).

Right now, the copy/paste problem is temporarily a low priority. The boot SSD in my computer took a dump earlier today and went through several infuriating hours of Hell on Earth replacing it with another SSD, then trying to get Macrium Reflect to restore to it. I don't feel like going into details about all the idiotic error messages for the BIOS, etc. and having to restore twice (once I eventually got that far) twice before it would finally take (I think the MBR wound up in the wrong place the first time). It was weird! Right now, I'm brain fried and my throat is sore from screaming at the stupid thing (2017 has been the second worst year of my life so far).

Ok Jeannie look if it is of any consolation my Ivy B has been a right royal ratbag for twelve months too.

I know that depending on what machine I have in use though is how I get pics within docs for example to put into posts - I have a few typed up for quickness and I cannot find a way to import pics for example with any advice clips and sometime the text is badly transcribed in that word s are often joined with no spellcheck noted .

I have found playing around with the style (see pic) can sometimes solve a problem but it often reverts and I cannot find a way to make it stick.

In addition to what ethel suggested have you tried the community from here Docs Team | LibreOffice - Free Office Suite - Fun Project - Fantastic People

With Word, all I have to do is copy the entire article, text and pictures, in one shot from the web page and paste into a blank document, then clean up the formatting a little (right now, I'm only running Win 7 machines). Easy peasy. With LibreOffice, I have to copy the entire article but do a special paste for unformatted text, then restore all the formatting, then copy and paste all the images back in one at a time. Doable but tedious and time consuming. One upside is correcting word wrap and picture position is so much easier in LibreOffice. I also like the ability to easily insert pictures from within LibreOffice without having to open another window and copy the picture from there.

I've never liked styles in Word and the same has proven to be so in LibreOffice. After fooling around with a manual and some tutorials I found, I decided they were far more trouble than it was worth and removed the Styles icons from the toolbar. Templates are much easier to use, instead, and I like LibreOffice's handling of templates better; it takes fewer steps to get to them.

I joined their forum (with a heck of a lot of difficulty for some goofy reasons, including their *&^%$#@! picture CAPTCHAs (I loathe those misbegotten things) which was having corruption issues and asked about the copy paste issue (again, with difficulty again because of the despicable picture CAPTCHA; I would love to "meet" the misbegotten donkey excavation who designed the horrible abominations) and got only one response (which didn't help). I'm amazed the people who designed a sophisticated program like LibreOffice would design such a piddle poor forum.

Yes unfortunately Jeannie the Linux based stuff and I am pretty sure Libre springs eternal form the depths of Linux somewhere and I know it is a tale over from Open Office which was when I used it very quirky for want of a better term.

I don't know if you have tried Kingsoft Free Office Software, Kingsoft Office Suite Free 2012 I have but I am not really sure how good it was because it was a long time ago. If you haven't then maybe it is worth a shot. Right now my only working machines are running 10 for the most part and I am caught up with a few things at the moment but I will try it out again given that I get some time.

I will try it on this machine (10) and see what it looks like and get back to you.

Edit: Forgot something else for you to have a look at Free Software For Office 2007 From Microsoft | Gizmo's Freeware

Kingsoft Office only works in Windows (I was looking at it once upon a time). I'm planning on completely losing MS Windows and be using Linux by the time Win 7 reaches EOL (01/14/2020). I have Office 2010 and I'm reasonably familiar with it already so there is no point for me to replace it with a program I need to learn how to use that may or may not run in Linux using WINE or something similar (push comes to shove, I could run Office 2010 in WINE on Linux but it can be a mite iffy from what I've read).

One reason I chose LibreOffice was it is compatible with both Windows and Linux so I can run it on Windows for now so I will already know how to use when I switch over to Linux and not have to deal with learning everything all at once (it's also one reason I switched from Adobe Acrobat Standard to PDF Studio Pro; I'm fully functional with it already although there are a few things I still need to learn eventually). Except for the issue when trying to copy/paste articles with images from websites, I pretty much functional with LibreOffice even though I still have a lot to learn. Since I downloaded LibreOffice. I've been using it far more than Office 2010 and using Office 2010 less and less as time goes on.

Another one I tried was Apache Open Office (the program LibreOffice forked off from) but it wasn't as up to date as LibreOffice and wasn't quite as functional.

Thanks for the link to Gizmos. I has a nice section on free Linux software (some of which will also run in Windows, allowing me to pre-evaluate them) that will be useful once I switch over to Linux

Ok Jeannie well that was the Open Office one I meant but personally I don't know what I shall be doing when 7 goes belly up it's a shame really cos although 10 is usable - email EBay Wikipedia etc I don't think that unless one is reasonably tech savvy it is very user friendly as is 10 in general.

It certainly isn't the same atmosphere in the forum as we have in the 7 one and I am unsure now of trying to help out (not that I am any great expert) in that forum because I only do this for a (now) retirement hobby.

Problem is when I have tried Linux stuff before (I am a fan of Ubuntu personally) their forums are really quite "lethargic" I found and I have a problem with that sudo line for navigating but I suppose I could get used to it.

That Gizmos site mate I have been using for many years now and I sub to it's newsletter and the forum there although it is very slow too though I don't use it that much. Mind you they do have some stuff on there you need to watch out for - example Free Windows Desktop Software Security List | Gizmo's Freeware because some of the free real time AV's they put up I would touch with a dirty stick but on the whole a nice site.

Well I hope you get something sorted soon sorry I couldn't have been more of a help.
    John:)
