I'm about to give up on being able to copy/paste text and images from web pages and just continue to paste in just special paste the unformatted text, then manually insert the hyperlinks and images one at a time.

What's really frustrating is trying to find a browser that has both Windows and Linux versions that can be set to alert me when a website tries to put a cookie on my computer and give me the opportunity to accept or block it. I can't believe IE11 is the only one with that capability. Opera was so jacked up, I had to restore an image to completely clean it (and the malware it allowed in) out .

Yes I don't hold out much hope for Wolfgang and even if something has happened to him maybe his wife has not had the time or even worry about letting us know like Gary's wife did when he passed.

Well you lost me at about the third drive Jeannie LOL!! but I have asked an old friend who I know is a bit of a Linux wizard if he can throw some light on things - hope you don't mind. I ma he might nit know but can only try eh?

Okay going back to Opera v 12.18 security patched version it's possible to prompt on new cookies.

    See:

However copy/ paste web page to Libre Office Writer will not work.

There is apparently a Linux version available (12.16) so it's not updated. See:

    Cookies

    I don't use Libre Office.
I tested it in my LM18.2 VM.

The Copy/Paste web content behaviour is a bit erratic.
It seemed to work on one site but when I tried it here ~50% of the images were replaced with error message boxes.

I know this isn't exactly what you wanted and you have to adjust it manually for each site, but have you tried playing with this Cookie setting?

1 - Click on the icon at the very left of the Address bar
2 - Click on the arrow

3 - Click on More Information

4 - This window should open.

Has Windows Update been causing the error message boxes? I think I read on the Microsoft Site in the past twelve weeks or so, that this could be a side effect from installing a recent update, causing XPS Document Writer to print error message boxes. If the MS update is affecting virtual printer, then could it also affect your LO copy/paste operations?

Well, my virtual printer (PDFCreator) is working just fine so I doubt that is the problem.

These aren't really error message boxes. Go back to post #5 to see what I'm getting.

I've pretty much have given up on "fixing" this and just settling on doing it the tedious way—pasting in the text only, then restoring the formatting, then hyperlinks and images one at a time—since the success of the operation depends on the browser being used and I still haven't found an alternative browser I like yet (the trend has been to limit cookie control in the latest versions ). Although it takes longer, I'm getting better results every time doing it the tedious way. Word sometimes would give slightly goofy results, depending on what Styles (I call it lazy formatting and hate it) the original used, and it could be a bugger to reformat (and still not get ideal results; and yes, I'm anal). It's also a bit easier to edit out and splice in content when using LO Writer than in Word; I get consistent results in LO Writer whereas word would occasionally "treat" me to some surprises. At least I'm retired (mostly just tired) and not on the clock.

Technically, the copy/paste issue iis not solved but I'm giving up on it, at least for now, since it seems to be a hopeless case and I have a reasonably acceptable plan B in place (beats Plan 9).

    Thanks everyone!

RE: Browser that can be used in both Windows and Linux. I've played with Dooble in the past and just installed it again. It doesn't prompt on new cookies but can be configured to determine which cookies should be preserved and the rest can be swept automatically every 60 seconds.

What I can't understand is why so many alternative browsers did away with the ability to be prompted when a website tries to put a cookie on one's computer unless it was so the browser developers themselves could get paid for putting cookies on your computer (or got paid to do away with the ability).

I'd guess that it's down to pressure from advertisers?
