Quick Divx Question

Can Divx player play AVI videos? Right now I'm using VLC to play all of my movies but I really like the desktop dimmer on Divx so I was wondering can Divx play AVIs? If not can anyone recommend me a standalone desktop dimmer because it really helps me focus on the video and not what's around it.
