Windows 7: Best Process Monitoring software

Best Process Monitoring software

Does any software exist to help keep track of the use and need for current processes running and maybe compare current to a log of processes captured running at a previous time?

When i have some problem with my Win 7 PC i often end up looking at what processes are running and trying to figure out if there are any new ones and whether they are needed or not. WinPatrol is somewhat useful for this but what happens is i forget which processes i have already vetted and what those with more cryptic names actually do and end up re-reviewing items that i should know.

What would be ideal is a program that would pull in the current processes, compare them to a list captured from the most previous session, AND provide a short editable description of each process in a table with a notes section that i can edit to prompt me when i come back if i already vetted or rejected each process that i previously reviewed.

Anyone know of something like this? I tried to run Process Monitor but seems there is some known issue with my Win 7 machine that keeps it from running, and AFAIK it doesnt have a notes section. Also tried YAPM but it tends to crash and also no editable notes. TIA ed
