    uTorrent - Different Versions

I'm using uTorrent portable and have recently discovered something I think is very strange.

The only uTorrent.exe file version I have is 3.5.0.43916, and if I double click on this file it opens with no torrents showing.

But, if when on a torrent site, I select Get This Torrent, uTorrent opens in Build 44090 with 5 torrents in its list.

I've done searches on my drives and searched the registry and didn't see anything pointing to a 44090 file. uTorrent does not appear in the installed programs list.

Any ideas how to correct this?

Where did you get this portable version?
If clicking a "get this torrent" link and uTorrent automatically opens, then you have set uTorrent as the default in Windows for torrent files. You should NEVER set a portable software as a default in Windows.

Since I cannot find any software for the 44090 build, how is that version opening when I click on the Get This Torrent link?

44090 is the latest utorrent build. Both my portable and installed are at that version. I ask again where did you get this portable version?
Look here and see what is shown:
    C:\Users\YOUR PROFILE\AppData\Roaming\uTorrent\updates

I got the file from either the link on PortableFreeware.com or the download on portableapps.com .

Thank you for the link to AppData / Roaming; my Explorer search of my C drive did not show any utorrent.exe files, but the Roaming/uTorrent folder has the version 44090 file. I've renamed the uTorrent folder and will test the next time I do a Get This Torrent link.

    Thanks for your help.

PortableApps is the only one to use. If you have uTorrent shown in the appdata folder then it is Installed on the system. I don't think setting the portable as default would create this directory. Not sure though. As mentioned before you should never set a portable software as a default app in windows. uTorrent uses the appdata folder to launch the program. If you have a shortcut check the properties to see where it launches from.
personally I would install the full version and set it as default.
