Rolling Back a .NET 4.5.2 Install?

I honestly don't recall what version I had installed previously, but I upgraded for one program to work, and it proceeded to replace all my shortcut icons with a generic MS icon. This is unacceptable and I am ditching the program and would like to restore my icons if possible.

Running 7 x64 SP1

Any thoughts?

Thank you

Never heard of this behavior as a result of .Net Framework hosing icons before, perhaps it was the "one program" you used? Anyway, before you do anything try this:

Information

If one or more of your icons are not displaying correctly, or that your icon cache is corrupted, then you might consider rebuilding the icon cache to reset and reload the icon images into the icon cache in Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8.

You're welcome. My only other suggestion before moving on to removing/repairing/uninstall-reinstall of .NFW would be to run SFC /SCANNOW command as Administrator.

Can anyone please explain the process of reverting from 4.5.2 to 3.5.1?

Hi Iron7,

You could simply uninstall it from your programs, the default is 3.5.1,
(check in Program and features - add/remove features top left)

3.5.1 Is the core base and part of the original install. Current verson is 4.7
if you update to that it may clear your problem
Please note the updated versions are offerred via Windows updates, if you do not want a newer version you will have to amend your WU prefferences to LET ME CHOOSE and hide it/them when offered.

This .NET Framework cleanup tool is designed to automatically perform a set of steps to remove selected versions of the .NET Framework from a computer. It will remove files, directories, registry keys and values and Windows Installer product registration information for the .NET Framework. The tool is intended primarily to return your system to a known (relatively clean) state in case you are encountering .NET Framework installation, uninstallation, repair or patching errors so that you can try to install again.
Roy's suggestion works as well but if your .Net FW is truly borked as you suspect uninstalling may or may not be complete. I've used the .Net cleanup tool successfully a few times FWIW.

Did U at least try the Icon cache rebuild (takes a few seconds) and/or the SFC /Scannow (a few minutes depending on system) as I suggested?
