Looking for W7 software that works like the old dos: XCOPY.

Hi,

Need some advice. I'm looking for W7 SW that works like the old dos: XCOPY. I've come across RoboCopy, RoboCopyGUI & RichCopy. I only want changed files to copy over. Since this 2018: "50 yr after we put a 'Man on the Moon' & retuned him safely". I cant believe we can't do it.

Any suggestions?

Why don't you just use xcopy in Windows 7? I'm not sure what you mean when you say "I can't believe we can't do it." What is stopping you?

"Xcopy [source] [destination] /A" is the command you want to use to copy only changed files from a command prompt.

Xcopy batch file

Dear strollin,

Thanks for your quick respone and xcopy suggestion.

I was pretty sure that W7 contained xcopy, have not tried is as it was a little kludgy form me. I am not a techie nor do I work in the tech industry.
I wrote a xcopy batch file 25 yr ago to xcopy working files from work files to a read/write DVD and it worked fine, that was 25+ yr ago.
And I want to do the same thing now.

WHAT YOU MEAN WHEN YOU SAY "I CAN'T BELIEVE WE CAN'T DO IT".
Why didn't MS make the powerful Xcopy a choice in WE as a rt. click option with copy, move, XCOPY, rather than a hidden, kludgy DOS command?
Maybe you can help me with the correct syntax. I would surly appreciate it:

MOVE MY WORK FILES FROM A LAPTOP TO DESKTOP & VISA-VERSA:
1] XCOPY FROM LAPTOP TO USB DRIVE
xcopy e:*.* /i:\nj\work *.*

2] XCOPY FROM USB DRIVE TO DESKTOP
xcopy i:\nj\work *.* /xcopy e:*.*

3] XCOPY FROM DESKTOP TO USB DRIVE
xcopy e:*.* /i:\nj\work *.*

4] XCOPY FROM USB DRIVE TO LAPTOP
xcopy i:\nj\work *.* /xcopy e:*.*
Regards,

The xcopy command was first introduced in DOS 3.2 and has always been a command line operation. It really doesn't make sense to add xcopy as an option to the right-click menu in File Explorer. I personally don't use xcopy much these days since I can quickly do what copying/moving I need using drag 'n drop from within File Explorer.

If you open a command prompt and type: xcopy /? and then press Enter, you will see the full set of switches and command syntax for xcopy. Here's a link to a tutorial regarding xcopy you might find useful: https://www.lifewire.com/xcopy-command-2618103
