Nitro (Primo) PDF Creator/Printer Stopped Working

After a bit of advice re. Nitro (Primo) PDF creator/printer - free version programme. I have been using this programme to read and create PDF files for a few years on my desktop. Yesterday I created a word document and as usual needed to convert it to PDF file to save on a stick for printing later elsewhere.

When I clicked on 'print', the usual Word print set up page appeared, but the usual small Nitro PDF windows/boxes didn't appear on screen. Also on the Word print set up page, it says 'no printers installed'. Please note I don't have any printers attached to this pc, just the Nitro programme that opens when clicking 'print'.

Somehow, my pc has lost connection between clicking 'print' and connecting to Nitro PDF creator. If I double click on the Nitro programme on the desktop, it still opens. Also, clicking on the printer icon on the top tool bar on Internet Explorer gets no response - so the Nitro has somehow become completely disconnected.

Are there any settings I can check? Grateful for any advice. Thanks.

    Hi woodbine,

Have you installed any updates recently, either Windows or Nitro (Primo) PDF creator/printer?

    I hope this helps!

    Hi Paul

Thanks for your reply. I haven't actually installed any updates myself. My pc did a lot of updating by itself last night, and took a while to re-configure when I first switched on today. However, last nights updates were a few hours after I discovered Nitro wasn't working.

As for the Nitro programme, as far as I can tell it's set to check for updates daily. Is there a way to check for Windows and Nitro updates that may have caused a problem - as I'm guessing you suspect updates for my problem?

As you may be able to tell, I'm nowhere near being an expert on these things.

    Hi woodbine,

It could possibly be something to do with an update that has thrown things out of sync, but knowing which one is the million pound question, if it is that of course. Do have a system restore point that is before the problem began by any chance?

    I hope this helps!

    Hi Paul

I've got a restore date of 9th May, and another in April. Would you recommend I try restoring? Or would I be better uninstalling Nitro and re-installing?

    Hi woodbine,

There are two options available to start with.

[1] You could try uninstalling and then re-installing. The only problem would be [if it is the updates for example] that you say the updates are set to daily. If the latest update was the problem then that will just get re-installed anyway. What you could do is to re-install and then turn off/disable the daily updates. I would suspect that there is an option in the settings to do this.

[2] Restore back to May [if that is when you know it was last working correctly]. Then turn off/disable the daily updates as per the above.

Of course, if it was not the Nitro (Primo) PDF creator/printer update(s) that caused the problem, it could be something else such as a Windows update etc.

If this doesn't work then we can re-think a possible solution.

    I hope this helps!
