how to find registry key for internet programs isnt installed yet
thanks in advance to anyone that can assist me my endeavor. My goal is to download a care drop of internet downloads containing anti mal and virals. However, as most know, you cant install when in safe mode especially when SYSTEM has taken over and raised the UAC of almost every area of the cpu. The plan is to enter the registry through an elevated cmd prompt by ctrl+shift+esc>regedit.exe this is where i get a bit lost...
M. Pietroforte, editor in chief 4sysops.com, describes how to alter the data in the registry as described in the following quote...
Script:
The good thing is that it is not really difficult to outsmart Windows Safe Mode. All of the services that are allowed to start in Safe Mode are stored in the registry folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal\
All you have to do is to add a REG_SZ key with the service name (not the display name) and the value data "Service" (without quotes). The service name of the Windows Installer Service is MSIServer. As such, the REG file that adds the correct key looks like this:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal\MSIServer]
@="Service"
Copy this to a text file, with the extension .reg, and drop the file into your tool box. Anytime you want to uninstall a program in Safe Mode, you just click on the REG file. You have to remove the key manually if you want to disable this feature. However, I think it usually won't do any harm.
Please note that it is not always possible to uninstall software in Safe Mode because the corresponding installer program requires certain services to be running. In such a case you might just enable these services as well in Safe Mode by adding their service names to the Registry. The Service Name can be found in the service's properties in the Services snap-in
Part that i need assistance with and clarification about:
All you have to do is to add a REG_SZ key with the service name (not the display name) and the value data "Service" (without quotes). The service name of the Windows Installer Service is MSIServer. As such, the REG file that adds the correct key looks like this:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
For Example: REG_SZ keys exist in the corresponding registry of INSTALLED programs then how should i go about obtaining one?[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal\MSIServer]
@="Service"
Alternately, he says "@=Service" but never says WHERE "@" is to begin with, so that you can replace his "@" with your "service" ! If im mistaken in my assumption that this was meant to be read like a formula then please let me know of my ignorance.
Any comment welcome, i can use all of the help and input i can get. Also this is just one part of a great many im having. The true end goal is to try and regain UAC access to give admin power back and to restore the cpu. advice on this is appreciated as well, but know that i have tried just about everything that has been preposed thus far and all have failed. Like a challenge? Then help me save my files!!
Thanks a trillion, wizards!
