    MBR and startup repair software.

Years ago my computer wouldn't boot(as is the case now). It freezes at the Win7 logo.

I found a program online that repaired the MBR and bootcode while the user was logged in instead of doing it during the boot process. Stupidly I deleted the program once I was done using it.

Does anyone know of or remember this software. It was freeware and I think it was developed by a university or college. A longshot I know but this program had it's fans and it's older software. I can't seem to find it using Google.

Thanks for your time reading this.

    Hi agorak,
Take a look at AOMEI Partition Assistant
You can install it and run it from your computer or install it in WinPE environment and run it from there. I believe SIW2's WinPE upload contains that as well, not sure though.

    Case Closed

I fixed my MBR problem using the sugggested methods. Thanks Paul and Snick for your time and aid. Please consider this thread closed as I will not monitor it anymore. But finding
was fortunate and I will visit again.

I've owned Windows 10 for years now but I don't really use it, preferring 7. In fact I think it was 10 that messed up the 7 MBR.

I never did find the software I was looking for. I really wanted to because it let you repair the MBR when logged into Windows as opposed to during the bootup process. And that is a rare thing. I'm still looking though. The lesson there is if you have a great software tool don't delete it but do save it to removeable storage and don't assume as I did that it will be available online when you need it.

See my post #3 AOMEI partition assistant repairs MBR from within windows or from Windows PE environment.

If you issue is resolved, you have to mark it so, you are the OP (original poster)

    Happy Computing!

    A quick addendum:
I kept looking for the appliccation that I mentioned in my initial posst because I really wanted it and well I found it. The lessons here are "Don't give up" and "god hates a quitter". The sotware was buried 20 pages deep in the Google search. And who ever gets that far? It's a handy mini-suite of tools and it's called EasyBSD. This sofftware allows the user to repair the MBR when logged on, as oppossed to during the boot procedure. As well as other handy fixes. Have you ever heard off it? And I'm not spaming this app, it's just a good tool that works. I'd post the link but I'm not sure if it's allowed. If you know the name it's readily available via your search engine. Sadly the latest versions are no longer freeware because it's just that good and now the developers make money from it. But on the positive side the older versions are still free for Windows 7 users. And I don't think windowss 10 people will even use this forum and see this probably, unless they are dual-OS booters. Another reason to use 7 and resist the evil 10. Note that if you cannot boot your PC at all then this software will do you no good. In my case I could boot using Safe Mode so it would have fixed my isssue if I still had the sofftware and hadn't inanely deleted it, as it has beffore. So ok now this thread is closed. Thanks to all expecially the admins.

Totally familiar with EasyBCD, in fact, I use it and recommend using it to set up dual/boot windows-other OS
    It's Freemium!
