Cant install Google Earth 'failed to authenticate'

    Pulling my hair out.

I installed a clean version of W7 Home on my Samsung RV510 laptop. Got all my software onto it except Google Earth which just wont run.

I had this version of GE on this laptop before reinstalling W7 and it worked perfectly. Also have it on my Desktop (also W7 Home) and that works perfectly too. Tried surfing the web for an answer but could only find references to not authenticating at the server. Whatever that may mean. Below is a pic of the response I get opening GE. Any help greatly appreciated.

After you reinstalled Win 7, did you install all the updates?

I am signed into Google accounts and I pinged the server 'kh.google.com' successfully.

You should be able to get Google Earth here. Scroll down & download the Google Earth Pro:

I've run into that problem recently. Your GE version is too old. It seems the GE server (that provides all the maps) has started refusing to authenticate connections from older versions.

In my case, I was holding onto a 6.x version of GE. I started getting warning popups that "this version will soon stop working", or something to that effect. I ignored the warnings because I really preferred the 6.x versions, but then one day it quit working with the "failed to authenticate" message.

Upgrading to one of the 7.x versions fixed the problem, but I miss my older version. The newer version includes trees as "3D-buildings", but they render as large, wire-frame geodesic domes that block out everything else from view, including streets and buildings. Might not be so irritating if they actually looked like trees, but they don't.

Don't know why it still works on your desktop, but I wouldn't be surprised if it stops working soon.

Yes I take your point. I read something similar elsewhere. It'll be a real pain if so. The newer versions dont have a link to Garmin mapping software that I use all the time. Currently it does work on my Desktop and I've had no popup warnings.

In the screen shot you provided of the Google Earth characteristics, it says the renderer is DirectX 8 and it's for the Vista OS. If you want to run that in Win 7, you might change the compatibility mode in the installation file properties to Vista.

Is there a way to get a download of the version you're trying to install?

I installed the latest version on this Vista system (I know, I know, but I'm not on my Win 7 system right now).

If you run dxdiag.exe and look in the 64 bit side, are there any problems noted? Are all the DirectX features enabled?
