That was regedit not gpedit. I was referring to your post #9.

Had you tried a different USB cable? Does the device show in Windows Explorer?

That was a typo on my part. I was using regedit.

I'm not using a USB cable when using USB. I plugging USB flash drives directly into the ports (this is a notebook computer). I do use a cable when connecting SATA SSDs to the computer (and I've used several different cables for that). Cables are not the problem. The lack of the window is a recent new behavior. This is the only window that shows the drives when plugged in (beside the icon in the tray) and the only way I can access a USB drive now (drive G:):

I'm not trying to be negative here: I really appreciate your (and Brink's) help.

Lady F, On a search of the web I did see where a corrupted user profile could cause this problem, so that maybe worth investigating.

Ok, please pretend I'm 3 years old or old and senile (wait, I am old and senile) and explain step by detailed step how to do that.

I'm not being sarcastic. I'm pleading for help. Seriously! I frequently need very simple, complete, step by step directions (having learning difficulties often makes simple things complicated for me). While I know a lot about computers, there is still a lot I do not know so one can't assume I know certain things, thus the need to treat me like a child or a demented senior.

You are a long way from being senile as your Posts on this Forum certainly confirm. This Forum Tutorial should help you, but you will need to transfer your profile settings.

To transfer your user profile this Tutorial might help.

I'm confused. How would creating a new user account and/or moving one fix anything?

I can't answer how or why it might fix your problem, but it was one solution I did see when searching for a fix.

Adding 'open in new window' to search results, & opening in new window
Whenever I search in W7, I want to have the ability to open found folders in a new window. If I r-click, that option is not there. Is there a way to add this to W7? Also: When I go to 'open file location', the file's folder opens in the same window - highly annoying. In Vista, it opens in a new...
