Acrobat 8 Pro Stopped Working in Win7/Pro x64

I have a licensed copy of Acrobat 8 Pro. It has worked for my needs for years. Today it stopped working. I get this error message:

"A serious error has been detected and Adobe Acrobat 8.1.0 Professional cannot continue. Please reinstall the application and try again."

I still have the original installation disk but I recall using Adobe's website to update several times.

Is it still possible to reinstall this product and run it under Win7/Pro x64? As the year winds down, will there be a path to using 'antique' software like this under the Win10/Pro x64 paradigm?

If not, are there other tools available that will allow me to edit pdf files and to insert form fields?

I'm not at all interested in becoming an Adobe software-by-subscription-in-the-clouds customer. I do tasks like this once or twice a year if at all.

    thanks,
    baumgrenze

Have a look at Foxit Software | PDF Editor Software & PDF Solutions
I use the free version, Typewriter mode to type into pdf or regular mode to type into say adobe pdf fed tax form. You can save both.
