Help! QB Error 3371”StatusCode 1118¦License data¦Win7 clone problem

Yesterday I replaced my wife's OEM Samsung 128GB boot drive (full) with a Crucial SSD ~3x the size. I cloned the new drive and expanded her working partition to the fullest extent.

All her programs are functioning properly (including several licensed programs) with the exception of both QB installs.

Both installs will not open past the splash screen with the attached error message overlaid. The odds that the QB's license file is corrupt and corrupt in both programs and the only programs on the computer exhibiting a corruption problem are nil.

The error message 'Click here' link is broken. I searched on the error/status code. Solutions are found here: Error 3371: Could not initialize license propertie... - QuickBooks Community

Given both QB installations were just fine before the drive clone, I cannot believe that any of Intuit’s possible reasons for the error are applicable. I’m thinking that QB somehow sensed a different, larger drive and threw the flag. All three of Intuit’s possible solutions are time consuming to varying degrees.

Before I proceed with the simplest of the three (deleting the stipulated license file, opening the programs as unlicensed then re-registering the programs or running their installation troubleshooting tool) I thought I’d first see if someone here has run into this problem and has either a confirming answer or a ‘magic bullet’ ;-).

Btw, not understanding the difference between having cloned the new drive off the OEM vs. booting the new drive with a MR recovery USB and restoring a MR image (other than ease and time), I guess it's conceivable that there is a difference between the two methods that has caused QB to choke?

    ?

If you know the licence file name compare it with the old one see if its the same upload to Diffchecker - Online diff tool to compare text to find the difference between two text files

The QB support page provides the filename. Although I'm not a fan of rejecting an alternative reflexively, I'm also practical. The odds of the license file for each of the two QB installs both being 'corrupt' has to be somewhere south of .01%.

Absent a more intuitive prospect, I'll delete the file for one of the QB programs and try the re-registering. I have to think that QB (a program that is renown for being resistant to a change in conditions/environment) is using the license file as its only available error among its stock of errors that might match the geographic change of drives.

I'll let you know how goes the one attempt.

Btw, should there be any difference in the state of the new drive resulting from a clone vs. image restore?

I ran QuickBooksDesktopInstallDiagnosticTool. It was the last suggestion on the support page but appeared to be the easiest.

Upon completion of it surveying and fixing whatever it considered to be a problem, I was presented with a screen advising that Activation was complete, click to open. I did and QB opened w/o incident.

Running the tool resulted in both the 2017 and 2019 installations to open.

All of my wife's account information was present in both instances and neither program required me to enter any credentials.

What we do not understand is that the Activation confirmation page that you print out indicated a CHANGED product # and serial #????

She restored the current data file from her office to one of the installations and that went just fine. So I 'think' if QB was going to choke because of different #'s it would have done so on the restore?

    Anyone aware of this condition?
