Windows 7, iTunes & an iPod Touch

I cannot get iTunes to recognize my son's iPod Touch (6th Generation). The iPod touch is set up & working ok w/o no AppleID; he doesn't seem to mind, he can still get WiFi. But we are having problems w/iTunes.

His comfuser is running Windows 7 Pro x64 w/SP1 (w/o internet access) & has iTunes v12.8.0.150. When we open iTunes, we can play music & roam around o.k., but when we open any menu item (File, Edit, Song, View, Controls, Account & Help), we have to click it a 2nd time to close it so we can open the next menu item. The other problem w/the menu is that when we open Edit>Preferences, iTunes will just hang for anywhere between 1 to 2 minutes (yes, I timed it a few times) before the preferences box opens.

But the biggest problem is that once I connect his iPod Touch (6th Generation) to the comfuser, iTunes completely freezes & I have to use the Task Manager to close iTunes down.

I even tried installing QuickTime, but I get errors:

The 1st picture is running the QuickTime .exe as Administrator though the normal double-click way.
The 2nd picture is running the QuickTime.msi /passive command.
Does anyone have a clue as to what may be the problem?

From iPod touch - Technical Specifications - Apple. The ipod touch 6th gen requires itunes 12.9.5 on pc. Try updating to the latest version.

Your command as is would assume that quicktime is a system command. It is not. It is an application not registered in Windows so you have to include the .exe in your command.

Once extracted, it's a system command, but Windows is not recognizing that fact.

After doing some probing from time to time, I finally figured out the problem. The registry was pointing to folders & files that were just not there/spelled incorrectly. I did a complete uninstall of EVERYTHING Apple-related (using Revo Uninstaller) & rebooted. I checked the whole computer & registry just to make sure, then reinstalled the latest version of iTunes.
All seems to be working fine now; no menu glitches, no hang-ups or freezes & I was able to back-up his iPod Touch to his computer as well as sync music from his computer to his iPod Touch.

I do see that you included the extension in your command however the issue is you didn't include quotes. If a filename has spaces you have to use quotes. When you type quicktime 7.7.9.msi all command prompt sees is quicktime and it assumes that 7.7.9.msi is an argument. Also a program is not registered as a service through command prompt just by installing it. That'll only happen if the program is setup to do that. By typing "quicktime 7.7.9.msi" you tell command prompt to look for that file and then add on any arguments, in your case /passive. I'm glad you figured it out but keep in mind to use quotes in filenames when using command prompt. The same thing applies to bat file scripts.
