Migrating a program W7 to W10
I have used migration programs/ software to move programs from one computer to another in the past when buying a new computer. Can this be done from a W7 OS to a W10 OS computer?

My wild guess is: not at all or very easily. Concerning the two computers, one with W7, the other with W10: Are the user account names the same, with the same User AppData Local LocalLow, Roaming structure, the same Program Files, Program Files (x86), ProgramData structure, and on and on we could go. Rhetorical question: how does the migration utility handle Registry Hives? I'm thinking, for example, from Windows 7 Professional to Windows 7 Professional with very very similar infrastructure, would migration be much easier. Let's see what others have to say. Last thing, what is the migration utility, what version or edition?

There are some Stand-Alones that can be copied into Program Files or Program Files (x86) and shortcuts manually made and placed wherever desired. Most software past Windows for Workgroups 3.11 has to be installed, data files associated if necessary, and so on. I'm curious, what migration utility did you buy? I still have a license and install EXE for Acronis Migrate Easy - which is for anything prior to Windows XP. Anything past, an unsupported gamble.

The upgrade works as an update, and copies EVERYTHING currently on your comp. Still valid as of 10 days ago when i used my old spinner to uipgrade for the future to get the digital licence ![]() Roy |

I have programs on my current desktop that I have zero way of reinstalling. I am thinking I may need to do a full reinstall to get to W10 since I am having updating issues. Therefore the programs will be lost. I have the same programs on a desktop I use for work. I had a thought that I might migrate them from the laptop to the desktop, but I think that idea falls apart with the move from W7, laptop, to W10, desktop.

Migrating to SSD, MBR problem I'm trying to migrate my Win7 OS to a SSD. I've used easeus partition manager to copy my partition. It just created one partition on the SSD though. Later, I got it to copy the boot partition from the original C: drive, and I used mbrfix to try and fix the MBR. That hasn't worked. I have... |
