I tried reinstallation, redownload, restart, running as admin etc. openvpn won't start.

    Hi kingston896,

What version are you trying to run?
Researching your issues, I've found the latest version has issues
    See here
Re: Windows 10 - openvpn service does not start, no errors, no log
The latest 2.4.7-I606 version has been packaged with the wrong service .. roll back.
Edit: A new-new version has been uploaded for download here:

My experience with portable apps is that many don't work, as you are experiencing.
Why are you running a portable/3rd party modification of OpenVPN?
I run the installed version with no problems.

Have you posted your issue with Portable Apps.
Have you tried a previous version from the download version scroll-box?

Awesome! Glad to hear it works for you!
I believe the portable apps don't work most of the time when the need to place entries in the registry or links to other files.
Would you please mark this thread solved. You do so in the blue bar at the top of the tread. You or an admin can do this, preferably you.

Back up your system regularly preferably with 3rd party apps such as AOMEI Backupper free or Macrium Reflect free.
External Hard Drives are getting cheaper every day.
