A couple weeks ago, I had my external hard drive connected and had been browsing some of the files I'd backed up over the years. I left my desktop for a while, and I came back hours later to an updated Version of Itunes, Winamp, (lol, old stuff, I know), K Lite Media Codec Pack, and I believe even a couple other things. I've used my external hard drive so much over the years, and this has never happened. I've managed to uninstall or roll back what was done and all is fine, but ever since, I notice I get random installation attempts, often when my computer is idle (at least it seems that way) I should note all the programs that were installed, I had backed up the installation files to my external drive... but I didn't choose to run any of them!!

For example, this evening, I came back to an error on my desktop saying the installation failed. It was for K lite Media Codec Pack 1860 Maga. I checked my windows/temp folder, which is always where these random files are being housed. Everything generally seems pretty innocent. Virus and malware scans always come up empty. Nothing odd running at startup. I already have K Lite installed and have for years. I just don't understand why the sudden installation attempts. Never seen anything quite like this.....

The only other thing worth mentioning is my VPN recently notified me that my traffic was possibly being intercepted and gave me the certificate name of Globalsign Root CA - R6, however all of my research pointed to this being an issue with the VPN and nothing to worry about. All I know is everything appears to be working fine other than what I've mentioned.
