    CD/DVD Burning software

    So, my Nero 6 has finally given up the ghost with Win7. Decided to ask here since I've found you lot to be one of the most knowledgable techs on the net.

    What's a good, free, optical drive burning software package? I don't need it to do all sorts of stuff like mount extra drives, or handle my media for me (HATE NERO SCOUT). Just want a simple interface that lets me drop files on it, and then it burns them to CD/DVD for me. Kinda like Nero Express.

    With that in mind, is the built in burning features of Windows 7 all I would need? I found Vista burning, while easy, to be too simplistic.

    Thanks for the help.

    Well, there are several softwares you can use that are simple and worry free with Windows 7 and gives you a very minimalistic/simplistic approach to burning/compiling CD/DVD media. A few are the following;

    PowerISO
    MagicISO
    Ultra ISO

    Thanks guys. The PowerISO and such line isn't really what I need. They don't offer burning capability, just ISO manipulation and drive emulation.

    I went with ImgBurn. Tested on my Win7 64x machine. Seems to be doing great. I'm going to have to teach my users how to use Windows Media Player's burn feature though since it won't burn audio CDs.

    Are you sure?

    I've been using PowerISO for almost two months now with Windows 7 and have burned tons of DVDs. That's weird

    I'm glad you found your match though.

    Starburn is a damn good bit of software, and best of all, just like you asked for, it's absolutely free....

    I don't like Nero, too, for its overloaded and complicated functionality. For CD burning I use Audio CD Burner Studio, it is easy to use, records MP3, WMA, WAV files to CD, has a very useful CD-Text feature that reads information about artists, albums, titles, thus naming them appropriately.

    Works fine for me

    Try using Roxio Creator 2009. It works fine after installation of SP4 patch. Haven't had a problem on Windows 7 x86 Build 7137.
