    Software inventory

Is there a free program that will let me inventorise all the software that I have installed so I know what to install after a format?

All you need to do Nick, is check your program and files section in Control panel... easiest way I can think of...

Whoops, Soory swarfega, I just checked it, it comes out a bit messy and gives you too much info.

Standby and I'll make good by writing you a batch file. :)

It took a little while, but here you go.

Please test it (I'm sure you will anyway ).

    Hi there
great effort but "Not wanting to be the 5Th player in a String Quartet" there DOES seem to be an error in it.

It doesn't list ANY of my MS Office 2010 products (as well as the usual suspects like EXCEL/WORD / POWERPOINT) it fails to list Publisher, Visio, Project, Access, Outlook.

Very nice effort but probably a bit more work needed.

    Hi-ya jimbo45,

Don't worry about being the 5th player..... if we have enough we can form a really cool band!

It's interesting that you have no reference at all for Office 2010, office 2007 shows on mine with three entries for the three different installs I did (i.e. Office 2007 including word, excel etc, Visio, OneNote). I did consider adding the individual office programs but the scope was to list 'installed' programs. The office products such as word & excel all run from the same installer.

I suppose it Swarfega needs the office programs listed individually we can get those from the office registry and add them to the file (but I'd prefer not to hard code this....hmm). The tricky part will be to remove the other entries for office that already exist on the list.

In regards to Office 2010 not showing at all on yours. Could you please open the batch and then remark out the following line
    del regexport.txt displayname.txt
    sava and run
and send me the two files that it creates (regexport.txt and displayname.txt), i'll take a look at these and work out why Office 2010 is not showing.

Cheers Jimbo, thanks for the feedback, you have me thinking about alternative approaches.
