program files or, program files (x86)

First of all I want to say hello to everyone! I just installed the auslogics Disk Defrag and the program files x86 was selected but, I changed it to go to the program files 64 bit instead. Is this the correct way or should I have let it go to the x86 files folder? Thanks! :)

Hello P5200, and welcome to Seven Forums.

It's not going to hurt anything at all. It would have been better to let it install in the (x86) folder, but that is mostly for your reference as described below, and when you have two copies (32-bit and 64-bit version) of that program (ex: Internet Explorer, etc.....).

In the 64-bit Windows 7, the C:\Program Files folder is for 64-bit (x64) programs and the C:\Program Files (x86) is for 32-bit programs.

In the 32-bit Windows 7, there is only a C:\Program Files folder for 32-bit programs only.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn
