Hi ebartolon,
Vlite version 1.1.6 does not require Waik.
What are you trying to do to 7?
Just hunt for the needed file from WAIK online and drop it in the vLite folder.
If you do as SIW2 says and install vLite 1.1.6 first it will install the required binaries from WAIK. You may then install vLite 1.2 final on top of 1.1.6 to upgrade it for better Windows 7 support. To be clear, it's better but not good. Note that there are several feature that you must not remove with vLite or Windows 7 will not install at all -- you'll get a fatal error during configuration near the end of the install.
Better to wait for the tutorial I'm working on that includes a method for slimming down a Windows 7 install without requiring the installation of of vLite or the multi-gigabyte Windows 7 WAIK beta. The goal of this tutorial is to squeeze the Windows 7 build of your choice onto a <$200USD ASUS netbook using no third-party tools.
Nvm I Had To Download In The End, And i was trying to trim the size of the iso, becasue soem features i never use.
Please let me know when your tutorial is complete as I find the standard version very slow at times on my NC10.
Thanks
m
I was waiting for the newer version of WAIK and ended up disappointed. Microsoft provides ALMOST all the tools you need to slim down an install EXCEPT a supported method to trim the WinSxS repository which contains copies (or links) of all software from all editions of Windows 7 whether they are installed or not. Seems that I'll not finish that tutorial until I figure a way past the issues.
Hi,
Yes, that's as yet unresolved, as baarod points out.
What you can do with vlite - and it may enough for what you require, is remove Components.
Place this .ini file into C:\Program Files\vLite\presets
Then, select this as the preset to use when you load vLite. You can change a few things, but try to stick to this as much as possible if not completely.
