Windows 7: Can You Over Ride Windows Live

Don't give up on W7 yet. It is far better than Vista. Anytime you do an in-place upgrade of a system it is known to have problems. There are simply to many different situations for the installer to pick the right option. If the existing OS has a problem the new OS installer might do the wrong thing when it installs. Starting fresh is far safer. Don't blame W7 for what is likely a problem with your Vista configuration. Once you get used to W7 you will not want to go back. W7 is much friendlier than any version before.

What other e-mail client have you installed? And have you tried this:
  1. Click the Start Orb
  2. Click "Default Programs"
  3. Click "Set your default programs"
Oh, and one other thing: Windows Live is NOT a standard Windows 7 component, and is installed only if you have downloaded it and installed it yourself (or someone has done so for you). If it existed on your Vista installation prior to the upgrade, then it was carried over from Vista.

If anyone knows how to over ride the default programs would you please let me know....

P.S. Hopefully someone will realize just how foolish this OS is. Such a let down from being told how "User" friendly it was suppose to be. As of now it is nothing short of a pain in my arse!

Hi, have you tried to set your Default Programs, this might help you.

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Set Default Programs.

Did you use the Transfer Wizard to save all your old Vista settings and move them to 7?

Well, just spent an hour on the phone with the company that I purchased the computer from. What a racket! I'm a paper packrat and dispose of nothing and never saw/read or removed a tag stating anything about a 90 day warranty. Isn't convenient that my software warranty expired at midnight last night but for $19.95 they'll sell me a recovery disc since when Windows 7 is installed it completely erases the built in recovery on a hidden partisan.

Once again another reason why I will never recommend that anyone upgrade to Windows 7. So sad that I spend $1000 on a good computer only to have it turned into a piece of crap by a ****ty operating system that not only takes over any control I did have but has made it virtually impossible to make it just go away. Thanks Microsoft...you just made me a believer in the Mac!!! Apples anyone?

No clue where you people are coming up with this information. I have and can find none of these. As for the transfer wizard I believe I did but like everything else they are gone...vanished into the hell of Windows 7 and the Windows Live Revolution of taking over the worlds computers!!!!!

Go into to tools and try and disable Windows Live Mail as your default mail program....HA HA HA It won't let you frickening do it!!!!

I have no conncection to MS, so I am speaking from the heart. It is not the OS, it is the incompatablity of the OS and some computers, and also errors by some of those trying to install. It is a good OS and as much as I am saying good things about them, I also really feel bad that you have had such an unpleasant experience. If you stay with 7 or go elsewhere next time, I wish you the best of luck.

Microsoft

In Microsoft's eagerness to push new operating systems to as many people as possible they created the operating system upgrade.

The operating system upgrade is like running through a mine field meaning more than likely you will get blown up,this is not a Windows 7 issue or a Vista issue or an XP issue it is a user/Microsoft issue.

You must take into account that most computers that have been used for any length of time usually have some sort of issue either there is an infection the user is unaware of or the registry has some level of corruption what ever the case the possibility's are endless.

If you were to take a brand new unused computer out of the box and do an upgrade right that minute you would more than likely have no issue but the unsuspecting person who thinks I am going to upgrade my operating system today to this new fancy Windows 7 after running Vista for a couple of years ends up with a disaster on their hands and they end up bashing a perfectly good OS that's how Microsoft gets a bad rap yes it's their fault but only because they created the upgrade path.

Upgrades are not the answer and I wish Microsoft would stop offering them, If your going to go with a new operating system a complete format and fresh installation of the new operating system is always the best way to do it.

With flash drive capacity and price today and the amount of people who have external hard drives it's really not that hard to copy your pics, docs, and music onto one of these devices and wipe your drive and start from scratch to save your self from all the hassle of a failed upgrade.
