    Windows 7 - Vista

I have an HP dv7-1020us Windows 7 x64, Intel P7350 Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM. I always make it a point to re-boot at least once a day. I find that HP systems typically run HOT - specifically b/c of the graphics (NVIDIA). Also, my IDT codec seems to be temperamental at best and is also affected by the intense heat that builds up.

I have noticed that Windows Explorer can easily top 100 MB RAM, so I use SysInternals Process Explorer to restart it if need be and it "calms down" back to 40 or 50 MB.

I don't suspect any memory leaks at this time, unlike I did in 2008 when I traced a 2 GB memory leak to the IDT codec. IDT would start off at 50MB after re-boot, then over a ~6 hour period would be consuming nearly 2 GB RAM!

However, I don't see any of this related to the issue that you have with Live services.

Th only other thing that comes to mind - do you have a 3rd party firewall installed, e.g., NIS, N360, KIS, McAfee..? If so, it may be the culpit given that SAFEMODE seems to be a temp cure.

    Regards. . .

p.s. --- what do you mean by "it stops working from time to time..? Are you speaking of a complete freeze requiring a hard shut down?
