    screen saver malfuntion

    I have an odd problem. Some of my default screen savers crash as soon as i preview them, and they don't show up after the allocated time limit. For instance if i set the time for one minute, after that time it won't turn on.

    When your screen saver crashes, does it bring your system down?

    It doesn't crash my pc if that's what you mean. However I get a message saying that this "screen saver" has stopped working pleas wait while windows...... You probably know the rest. This happens when i preview them. When its just idle it does absolutely nothing. Anyhow, it's not a big problem really. Just really annoying.

    These are not my suggestions...

    Step 1
    You may try to use a different windows theme on your computer and check if it helps you fix the issue.
    Access the link below and follow the steps to change the theme on your computer.
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Using-themes

    Step 2

    Sometimes this issue can be caused by some third party applications. I would suggest you to put the computer in a clean boot state and check if the themes remain the same after restart.

    Access the link below and follow the steps to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

    If your issue is resolved after performing clean boot, then follow the steps mentioned in the following KB article to narrow down the exact source.

    Also, see the section on how return your computer to a Normal startup mode by following the steps under “Reset the computer to start as usual” and set it back to Normal Startup.

    Step 3

    Also check if any policy is enforced for control panel or desktop in the following location in registry.
    To open Registly follow the steps below:
    1.Click on Start.
    2.The the start search box type regedit and press enter.
    3.Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion\
    4.Verify the following entries have default values set.
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
    ScreenSaverActive = 1
    ScreenSaverIsSecure = 0
    ScreenSaverTimeOut = Time in Secs
    SCRNSAVE.EXE = points to screensaver location

    For some reason the subject line made me think of Janet Jackson. Does it only happen during the Super bowl?

    Lol. Well the problem is fixed. I was running a registry defrag/repair tool and it fixed it. Thanks for the help though.
