Unhappy with compatibility

I just bought a new computer with Windows 7 Home Premium. I am very unhappy with what it does not support. With XP I used older versions of Quick Basic, Systat, Picture It! and Outlook Express. None of these and probably some others that I have not yet discovered does 7 support. Also my old Canon scanner which I used everyday will not run with Windows 7. How can Microsoft make a product that does not support even some of their own older software?

Install in compatibilty mode. Most, if not all, will work

Type compatiblity mode in help and support, by start orb, and after you read it, I want to see a happy face.

Outlook Express is no longer supported. Windows Live Mail is the successor.

The Microsoft compatibility center:

Windows 7 Compatibility Center home

Not to defend Microsoft, but I don't expect them to maintain compatibility with their old application software for eternity.

As regards your scanner, Microsoft doesn't usually write drivers for third-party hardware, although they distribute drivers through Windows Update.

While it's aimed mainly at businesses, Win7 Pro and Ultimate allow free download of a version of XP that runs in a virtual machine. (I imagine it can be done in Home Premium as well, but you'd need a separate paid XP license.) I hesitate to suggest using it, as it might sound like "Let them eat cake." (Also, I haven't tried it.)

Why use older versions? The new ones are most likely superior.
