Can't uninstall a previous iTunes installation

There is an iTunes installation listed in Programs and Features, but when I try to uninstall it, I get a message saying, "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable." It wants me to find an alternate path to iTunes64.msi.

I have tried extracting iTunes64.msi from the most recent version of iTunes x64, but it won't accept it. By default, it looks for the file here: "C:\ProgramData\Apple Computer\Installer Cache\iTunes 8.0.2.20\". However, there is no such folder, and I can't find any "Installer Cache" folder on my computer.

I have also tried uninstalling with CCleaner, but it reports that it can't find the MSI file.

I have tried installing the most recent version of iTunes x64, but it reports that it can't uninstall an older version of iTunes and refuses to install.

    Any suggestions?

Type services.msc in the 'run' box, click okay. Locate iTunes, right click on it then choose properties. Set it to disabled. Now see if you can uninstall it.

Also, have you selected to show 'hidden files and folders', which is located via control panel > Folder Options > view tab?

I do have "hidden files and folders" set to show, but iTunes is not listed in Services.

Do you have Quick Time installed? If it is, look around it's folders to see if iTunes is placed in it, or possibly Apple software.

You might also see if Revo Uninstaller will do the job:

You could also try doing it in Safe mode. Incase you dont know how to do that... Type msconfig into Windows search box>click on boot>click on safe boot . o.k

I think Windows Installer Cleanup may be the wise way to go.

I just came across this page and found the utter frustration of the author

You guys are the best. Windows Installer CleanUp Utility worked. I had actually installed it yesterday, but couldn't find it after installing it and just assumed that it wasn't going to work properly with Windows 7. But I did a search for it, it showed up, and it did the trick.

    Thank you so much!
