Data Recovery Software

I formatted a second installation on my HD forgetting that both win7 32bit and 64bit rc installation files were there(yeah I know.. i guess im too busy to think straight). Is there a free or trial data recovery software out there that might work because I have tried a few and so far I have only recovered a install.wim which is like over 2GB. But I can't seem to find an image loading software for it to work(I have tried virtualclonde drive and it doesn't work. meaning it does not install win7).

I have installed windows 7 64bit on C drive(partition I formatted was D). so what do you have regarding the .wim file.. go ahead I will give it a try at this point.

Ok - did you check out the thread above?

If you want to go ahead and install via .wim - you will be hooked - it's fast and fun.

This assumes the .wim you recovered is not damaged ( it might be ). Make sure it is named install.wim ( rename it if necessary)

First select a freshly formatted partition to install 7 on - give a letter e.g. D. I assume you are currently booting into 7 on C ( if not - change the letters in the commands below as appropriate ).

The index number 3 in the imagex command is for 7x64 Pro [ and also for x86 Home Premium ] - otherwise use the appropriate index no. instead.

[The correct index numbers are: For x86 Starter 1, Basic 2, Home Premium 3, Pro 4, Ult 5. For x64 there is no Starter , Basic 1, Home Premium 2, Pro 3, Ult 4. ]

1. Put the install.wim directly on C drive.

2. d/l this .zip ( obviously rt click >properties>unblock>apply>ok ,as usual). Extract the file , imagex .exe and put it in C:\windows\System32

imagex.zip

3. open an elevated command and type:

imagex /apply c:\install.wim 3 d:\

then press enter

that will take about 6 mins.

4. then type:

bcdboot d:\windows

then press enter - it should say completed successfully.

5. Restart and select the first entry in the boot menu for Windows 7. ( you will have two 7 entries now)

It will finish installing in about 5 mins.

If you have a suitable shadow (restore point), you might be able to recover the files with Shadow Explorer. All you need to do is navigate to the restore point you want to use > the folder in question > right click on it and "Export" to wherever you want. But if this was a "replacement installation", the shadows will be gone of course.

okay the 'install.wim' obviously seemed to be corrupt or something and it didn't work. I downloaded and tried the EASEUS software and it found both the win7 installation ISO files and recovered them both and it seemed pretty intact because the ISO files seemed like before(the icon and everything seemed intact) but when I load it up on virtualclone drive and I go and click the drive it says 'Can't access the drive and the file might be corrupt'. Weird since it seems so intact including the icon and everything. At this point.. is there anything left I can do (I will try another search and recover)?

I forget whether or not R-Studio comes with a free trial, but if it does, I'd greatly recommend it.

Well, I guess the recovery software is not working properly that's why you are unable to recover the image of Windows 7 installation. Virtualclonde drive is not working? Then I have no idea about the problem. But according to me you better change your recovery program and see if it works. Try windows 7 data recovery software, it will surely help you out from the situation and retrieve your Windows 7 installation effectively.
