    pdf file icon, access attachments

I have seen some discussion concerning Acrobat 9 and file icons, but honestly, I couldn't follow most of it, besides, I want to do the opposite.
there are two steps to what I'm trying to do:
    1) get PDF files to consistenly use the thumbnail of page 1 as the file icon
    2) get access 2007 to display this thumbnail in an attachment (data type) field in a form
for step 1, some of my PDF's will show thumbnails as icons, others not and I do not know why. they are all handled with the same version of Acrobat 9 Professional and thumbnails display just fine within the opened file or in a PDF portfolio. I know how to set the folder options for icons vs thumbnails and again, some files do show the thumbnails, others in the same folder, not.
for step 2 I have not idea how to even start on that.
    Any help would be appreciated!!

Thank you, hey at least I know everything did get posted and it wasn't just my imagination :)
I am using Acrobat professional 9, but I think the files are created by/show different versions in their file properties listing which might have something to do with that. However, I thought if I opened and saved the file in version 9, it should be saved as 9, and I also tried to save it in different versions, to no avail. Adobe is not very good in their support, or else I just haven't found the right place/person to ask.
