    Release Candidate in May

Read online about Windows 7 RC. I assume that means release candidate. I wonder if I should try it when it comes out in May. I hate using skins for programs or programs that imitate an upcoming OS. It's not the same and you don't appreciate it as much. Whether it is transformation pack or WindowBlinds it feels fake. WindowBlinds have great skins that works for current OSs. That's cool. Hopefully Win 7, RC or whatever will come soon. If not I'll either use WindowBlinds - Vista version and skin or i'll stick with Vista now. And just wait!

Skins can never give you what the new OS can, it's only skin deep (pun fully intended)
There are so many other changes under the hood in W7 that while it is built on the Vista kernel, there are enough differences (other than visual) that you should definitely try it. I'm surprised you haven't grabbed the Beta builds yet just to see what it's like.

To me using a skin to make an old OS LOOK like something else is like putting a Ferrari hood sticker on a Ford Pinto and thinking it's cool...

Yup, Chappy, you are right, skins are just skin deep. They can't compete with OSs unless you use current gen skins for current gen OSs. I guess I am jumping the gun. I just want to see Win 7 out this year, maybe by August. I am hearing conflicting stories. I tried to get Win Media Player 12 to work on my Vista but couldn't. I tried copying the folder and .dll files but I kept getting dialog boxes so I gave up. Too much trouble. Guess I'll wait from now on.

    Thanks.

I'm hoping it's out for the return to school in August (at least no later).

    Hello Rob,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. I’m looking forward to testing the RC build when it becomes available legally
If you're downloading different builds, via torrents, then you can't actually help with "feed back", can you?
Please let me know if I'm wrong here.

No matter how much you skin xp or vista your still using a 10 year old os or a flakey and slow os. Win 7 does really beat both them hands down. So no matter how much you skin old os's, you miss out on new innovations.

There is no substitute for a decent OS. I've used WindowBlinds quite often & it's a great package but it will never have the functionality & updates of a current OS.

Build 7057 & above are all RC's & the 'Final' RC is due sometime in May (watch out for updates, as Digger states it has a habbit of being pushed back).

I somewhat agree there swarf... you do miss out on innovations... but a clean xp vs a clean 7 i see maybe a minimal performance gradient with the two, very minimal. I will say that with XP the more you put on it the slower it gets. whether the difference is in registry or fetch i'm not certain. The memory load or "leak" is better with win7 over a long uptime i will say also. And i have tended to load up on 7, be it space or things in use like programs and gadgets etc... vista... well... "ha"

as far as skinning... thats really not what i'm after in an OS, its just a nice eyecandy thing for me to play with when i actually get some spare time to play around with 7. I want stability, feasability, and useability along with being able to configure and customize the way i want it.... like a cheeseburger... i may not get all the onions, lettuce and tomatoes with it, but i can decide whether or not i want ketchup, mayo or mustard on it. I hate a plain cheeseburger
