There is an excellent program called "ZBar" which is simple and effective. Still in it's early stages of development it can be rather basic, though that is one of it's charms. It is also freeware and the developer often vists his forums and talks to the users. This leads to constant new developments to what the user wants.

    ZBar

I have read all the current posts in this forum and would like some information. I am trying to aide the ZBar developer , Tom Revell, in futher development of ZBar.

There are many feature present in Ultramon, DisplayFusion and Task Windows 7 that have not been optimised in ZBar. Such as the way programs will first appear in the primary taskbar for a while before being moved onto the secondary one.

I noticed that Task Windows 7 was beautifully made to incoperate Windows 7 DWM and GUI perfectly and was wondering who developed it and how. There appears to be no mention of it outside this forum it seems.

If anyone could help me or point me in the right direction of a couple of these issues it would mean a great deal to me.

    tnx. for zbar

No problem, though I have been talking to the developer for the past few days. He has released a couple of new updates since the latest version. I suppose you could call it a beta edition: The link below.

Also if you have any new ideas for ZBar you could post them on his website in hopes of improving ZBar. Currently it is a great Freeware application: The developer also mentioned about the possibility of having ZBar on a single monitor and altering the size so that it would be similar to Macintosh OSX toolbar. I think this would be a great addition.

    Hello folks,

I am trying DF in the freeware mode, seems fine for wall paper but does little else, but am curious if the pro version supports primary monitor switching. I have LCD monitors and a LED projector. I usually like to game on my projector at 80", but without UltraMon this was a giant head ache to switch at a wim what monitor the game would boot on. Does DisplayFusion support such tricks or is just a glorified wall paper taskbar app?

Display Fusion is better for Win 7 than Ultramon

My 2 cents: I purchased UM to use on my XP system with 3 monitors and have been very pleased with it. However, I upgraded to Win 7 primarily to take advantage of the Aero Peek functionality of the task bar.

Since I usually have about 8-10 windows open of the same application (ThinkorSwim, I'm a day trader), the ability to point to the different window instances and get a thumbnail and know which monitor it's on is really great. From what I can tell, UM doesn't have anything like this.

DF however, has the ability to display thumbnails of the windows on each monitor. Unfortunatley, the support is only a subset of the Win 7 abaility as only a single thumbnail of the window you are hovering over is shown. I would love to se thumbnails of all the windows on that monitor and be able top hover across them like Aero Peek.

Jon from DF says this will be available in a later release and based on what others have said on this forum, we can believe him. I will therefore be purchaing a copy of DF

    Hope this helps.

A dual screen software with original features

I would like to add a Windows software with taskbars, toolbars, docks and wallpaper management for dual screen.
A Google research with its name "Kitoolbar" and you will find it on several downloads web sites.
    Good test !

Sorry, I was a bit short in my description
It is just one more alternative to Ultramon.

For example, you can add as many taskbars and toolbars as you want, filter displayed tasks, hide buttons, customize colors...

Also, it can automatically download images from any web site and generate dynamic images lists. They are used to set periodically the wallpaper.
For example, it downloads the daily picture of "Astronomy Picture of the Day" and set it as wallpaper every day.
It is compatible with every web sites.

would you say then that zbar is the best free alternate to ultramon? I just want to have 2 different wallpapers.

If you have a 2nd taskbar on the 2nd monitor will it minimize any app used on that monitor to the taskbar on that monitor or would it minimize it to the taskbar on the 1st monitor?

sorry for sounding confusing lol this is a 1st for me

I have just given Displayfusion pro a go and the taskbar setup is not that great. It does show icons, but it does not show taskmanager icons (next to the clock). Any other alternatives to that? I need to have pop-peeper open if I want to see my mail instead of just looking at the icon change in the taskbar.
