I started reading this thread a few weeks ago. I thought I had solved the problem. Somehow or other I lost the list of about 7 things needed to be done before installing Photoshop 4.0 Yes 4.0 not CSE 4

Here is the situation. I love Photoshop 4.0 It does everything I need

I too am having a hard time installing it in a 64 bit Windows 7 laptop system. Error message is that the software is not 64 bit.

HOWEVER My 64 bit Windows 7 desktop has Photoshop 4.0 running on it just fine. So I know it can be done. How my desktop Photo 4.0 got installed I can not remember, but perhaps that will make it easier for me to copy some files from that computer and make Photo 4.0 work on my laptop.

Outlander Do you have a list of DLLs or something.

    Thanks in advance

So I had an epiphany this afternoon. Why am I knocking myself out trying to get my old Photoshop working? Why not just buy a new Photoshop ?!

So I did a little research and it seems that "CS4 was the first 64-bit Photoshop version" That from a Photoshop forum.

    1.0 Is this correct?

I looked and found a SEALED Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended (Creative Suite 4) for Windows" for $400.00

It is described as guaranteed genuine from a large designs studio that had several, but this was left over and they have moved on to newer versions.

    2.0 Is this a fair price ?

    3.0 Does this sound genuine?

4.0 Would this work with my Windows 7 Pro 64 bit Ultimate Laptop Computer?

Remember, it has been almost 20 years that I have had my Photoshop 4.0 so please excuse my ignorance.

5.0 Also , I have always appreciated that I have been able to load up Photoshop on both of my home computers and have been able to re-install after crashes or new computer. Have things changed? Is there a limitation on how many computers you can install?

6.0 Finally, is there any less expensive Photoshop like software that does the basics? I have tried Windows Paint but at least to me it is very non-intuitive, hard to use and most importantly does not seem to be able to re-size and rotate images.

    Thanking you in advance.

PS I still don't understand how my Photoshop 4.0 works fine on my desktop? Seriously. Does anyone have a clue about how it will work on my 64 Bit desktop but not my 64 bit laptop?

Is there any chance that I had a Window 7 32 bit, installed my Photoshop 4.0 and then upgraded to 64 bit?

That won't solve my laptop because I don't want to lose all my already installed programs. But just trying to figure this out. I did so much Google research. So many experts said " Oh you can't run Photoshop 4.0 on a 64 Bit machine. But as I speak I am looking at my 4.0 working on my Desktop 64 Bit. Just such a mystery to me.

Is there anyone on our forum that can solve this mystery. I really don't want to spend 400.00 if I could find out before payday, how to make my old Photoshop work. But at some point I just have to figure that I am spending more of both my time and forum member time then it is worth.
